Cyra Frandsen

Bio

Coach Cyra, a dedicated purple belt trained by Charles Gracie, specializes in youth Jiu-Jitsu coaching.

When did you start BJJ?

I started BJJ 6 years ago after watching four of my boys enjoy, compete and learn BJJ.

What about coaching do you like, or why do you coach?

Coaching is an important part of my life because I value having both the opportunity and ability to encourage, bring confidence and impart skill to others. BJJ skills allow an individual to find belief in themselves through encouragement tools and perseverance through difficulty.

What is your favorite position to teach?

Side Control, top or bottom is like a door offering infinite possibilities.

What three BJJ habits do you consider essential?

Moving, learning and applying BJJ is essential to growth and maintenance

of a person’s Jiu-Jitsu lifestyle.

What has training BJJ taught you?

My Jiu-Jitsu journey has required me to have resilience and has therefore brought me to an understanding of it. Despite adversity it is absolutely worth it to keep trying.

When you are not on the mat, how else do you like to spend your time?

Anything outdoors is my thing. I have had many years snowboarding, skiing, bicycling, running, hiking, gardening, boating, kayaking, motorcycling, camping, backpacking, and more.

Additional Qualifications:

Working with and teaching kids for over 25 years as a volunteer teacher for church and teaching co-ops has led to significant exposure to different learning styles and teaching techniques. Also, as a mother of 5 boys, I believe I am uniquely equipped to tackle big things.
